GABLE – the triangular area created by the two sloping roof lines on an end wall. See DORMER WINDOW
GALLERY - narrow exterior porch or balcony; succession of rooms to display art; rail with small wood or metal spindles attached to the outer edge of cabinetry
GARLAND - real or silk garden elements interwoven into a long strand, typically draped on stair railing, over a door surround
GATELEG TABLE - table with drop leaves and a movable leg, which can be swung into position to hold the leaf upright or retracted to allow the leaf to remain down
GAUGE/PITCH - number of yarn ends across the width of fabric
GAUZE - light weight, sheer, plain woven fabric
GAZEBO - outdoor free-standing structure with a roof, typically octagonal and open on all sides
GEOMETRIC - pattern with simple rectilinear shapes
GESSO - plaster of paris with glue used for painting and gilding
GFI - Ground Fault Interrupter, required by code in wet areas for electrical receptacles
GICLEE - pronounced "gee-clay," and derived from the French word "squirt," these are sophisticated inkjet, often limited-edition prints, created from high-resolution digital images with great detail
GILDED - an object with a thin overly of gold leaf added to its surface
GILDING - the act of applying a thin overlay of gold leaf
GIMP - thin rope or braid used as trim on fabric
GINGERBREAD - term often used to describe elaborate lathe-turned or carved wood details adorning Victorian structures, including fretwork, brackets, posts, pilasters, pediments, etc.
GINGHAM - mercerized cotton woven fabric of stripes, checks or plaids
GIRANDOLES - embellished mirror incorporating a pair of sconces wired and installed on a wall permanently
GLAZED CHINTZ - resin finish applied through a heat pressure process to chintz creating a polished surface 
GOLDEN THREAD
- a theme throughout an interior, which unifies the space
GOLD LEAF - paper thin layers of gold brushed onto a prepared adhesive surface, usually over a red primer to increase vibrancy and luster
GOTHIC ARCH - steep arched opening with a pointed center and gradual curve, no keystone used
GRAB BAR - safety rail installed in showers, tubs or other areas to help prevent individuals from falling on slippery surfaces
GREEN DESIGN - sustainable design methods utilizing recycled, renewable and environmentally friendly materials and design elements. i.e. energy efficient insulation, solar power, water conservation methods, renewable bamboo flooring, etc.

GREIGE, GRAY, GREY GOODS
- unbleached woven goods, in an unfinished state
GRIFFIN, GRYPHON, GRIFFON - mythological creature, often with the body of a lion, wings of an eagle, head of a lion or eagle
GRIN - gap in the face of carpet revealing the backing
GROMMET - two round metal sleeves crimped together to protect and strengthen an eyelet
GROS POINT - warp-looped, non-directional fabric made of wool or synthetic fibers resembling needlepoint
GROUT - thin mortar used to fill in spaces between tiles, bricks or other surfaces
GUILLOCHE - decorative pattern of interlacing curves
GUSSET - cloth panel added to provide additional strength or to gradually taper an increase in size
